Goals and Challenges
We want all people to be able to live free, in dignity and equal in their civil rights. We want to help overcome hunger, poverty, ignorance and inequality. That is why equality between men and women and gender equality are the focus of our work along with the support of women and their empowerment. The cooperation with women’s groups and organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America includes projects for the professional qualification of women in agriculture and trades, services and production. There is often investment aid or microcredits given, in order to afford the women a successful start into their chosen occupation. Many women work as small-scale entrepreneurs or work together with other women in small groups or cooperatives. They want to live on what they earn and be capable of giving their children a better education, improved nourishment and the possibility of health care.
Our cooperation is a partnership where our partners decide which path to chose. These women’s groups/associations and the trainers decide together with the members of an association what the focus of the project will be. Before starting a project they need to find out what the income possibilities of the different activities can be. To help is our principle in every project. We are comitted to ending inequality, fostering equity and justness, gender equality and sustainable development.

We are committed to transparency!
Those who are working for the welfare of the community should say what the organization does, where the money comes from, how they are used and who the decision makers are. The strength and diversity of civil society are good indicators of the degree of development of modern civil societies. The currency of this sector is trust: the trust of the public and private donors, staff, volunteers and beneficiaries in the abilities and the integrity of organizations that are working for the common good. This trust must be preserved and further developed. For this purpose, transparency is an important key. Therefore, many organizations have voluntarily agreed to make more information public. The aim of the Civil Society Transparent Initiative is to produce a broad alliance for action within civil society and to agree on key parameters for effective transparency. The signatories to the initiative commit themselves to reveal to the public ten precisely named and relevant pieces of information about their organization and to make them easily accessible. This should not replace the existing standards, but it should define a benchmark for effective transparency conditions in the non profit sector.
The Marie Schlei Association has voluntarily signed to the Civil Society Transparent Initiative.
