The Marie Schlei Association supports women in developing countries and helps women and girls all over the world to implement their right to education, which is the key to sustainable development. Through access to education and qualification women become aware of their intrinsic value. They discover that they themselves and their work are invaluable for the development of their family, their villages and yes, even their countries. The women are able to nurture a new sense of self consciousness and self-esteem. Most women are prepared to work very hard for these ideals. They want to shape their lives themselves. They have talents and skills. Without their efforts hunger, poverty, ignorance and violence cannot be conquered. Partnerships with women’s organizations in their respective countries can be established, self-help projects organized by women for women, i.e. also with microcredits. The projects are as varied as their locations. All have in common that they are developed and implemented by native women`s organizations. Our partners determine their project themselves. They administrate the financial means. A fair and equal cooperation is thus possible. Up till now around 650 self-help projects for women have been supported by the Marie Schlei Association. These educational projects help to overcome poverty and underdevelopment and to build up an equal and just society.
The Marie Schlei Association spreads information in seminars, conferences and information booths about the situation of women in Africa, Asia and Latin America with the goal of understanding among nations and support of solidarity. The focus here lies on economic and ecological contexts, global challenges, women’s active participation in governmental development programs and the chance for women to profit through globalization.
