The Marie-Schlei-Verein e.V. was founded in 1984 in memory of Marie Schlei, former Minister for Development Aid. The statutory objectives of the non-profit association are “to promote cooperation with poor women, groups of women and women’s organisations in urban and rural areas, to promote the education and training of women, to provide information on the background of need and injustice, to promote equality between men and women, to promote understanding between nations, to disseminate information that creates and deepens understanding of the situation of women, in order to strengthen co-responsibility and helpfulness for women and thus for the people in developing countries”.
The association is registered in the register of associations of the Hamburg District Court under VR 17487 and was last recognized as a non-profit organization by the tax assessment dated 28.08.2018, Finanzamt Hamburg-Nord, Steuernr. 17/420/14114.
The association has almost 700 members in 2018, who are involved in regional groups as well as at the federal level.
